Flaviah Dorothy Namuwaya is a young mother born and living with HIV, she holds a Degree in Social Sciences of Makerere University. She found out about her status at a tender age of 9 which she gladly accepted through counselling and peer support. It was a turning point in her life that she resolved to make the fight against the HIV Scourge her life’s major purpose. Her determination has seen her work with Joint Clinical Research Center (JCRC), Stigmaless Uganda, People in Need Agency (PINA), Uganda Network of Young People Living with HIV (UNYPA), Uganda Youth and Adolescent Health Forum and Reproductive Health Uganda some of which are the leading HIV scourge fighting organizations in Uganda. Her work has seen her gain experience in Advocacy and Activism, Counselling, supporting young positives to cope with stigma and discrimination, boosting adherence, disclosure, enabling young positive mothers to access treatment through PMTCT and creating general community awareness of HIV prevention and treatment. All these as she served as a Peer Educator, PMTCT Ambassador, Cure Advocacy fellow, Community Advisory Board member, Global Community advisory board member for ACTG and a Youth Coordinator. Flaviah currently runs her own Non-Governmental Organization “She Cares” which seeks to rehabilitate and empower young positive mothers in areas of access to HIV treatment and its co-infections, prevention, adherence to their drugs and skills training in economic empowerment. Flaviah stands for the attainment of an HIV free generation and this is her mission.
