Luísa Figueiredo Lab

Parasitism relies on the ability of an organism to exploit its host.
Trypanosoma brucei is a unicellular parasite responsible for a fatal disease
in humans (sleeping sickness), and for a chronic disease in cattle (nagana)
in Sub-Saharan Africa. We are interested in understanding the cellular and
molecular mechanisms employed by T. brucei to be an effective parasite.

Miguel Prudêncio Lab

Our lab's research interests span a wide range of topics within the
malaria field, with particular emphasis on the hepatic stage of infection.
We are interested in elucidating hitherto obscure aspects of the biology of
Plasmodium infection, unveiling novel host-parasite interactions, and
developing new drug- and vaccine-based anti-malarial strategies.
