Ninth EDCTP Forum 2018

Welcome

From the Co-chairs

Welcome to the Ninth EDCTP Forum

Dear Colleagues and partners,

On behalf of the Co-chairs, we warmly welcome you to the Ninth EDCTP Forum in Lisbon, Portugal.  With a record number of participants expected this year, we are delighted to see that the EDCTP biennial conferences are becoming larger and more inclusive as the number of EDCTP grantees and partners increases every year.  This year, we welcome Nigeria, Ethiopia and Angola as the newest members of the EDCTP Association.

The 2018 Forum builds on the growing awareness for global cooperation for preparedness against disease outbreaks, public health emergencies, and strengthening health systems. The meeting in Lisbon, Portugal presents a platform to take stock of the impact of Europe-Africa partnerships in enabling the clinical research environment in developing countries to meet the sustainable development goals.

EDCTP is proud of its record in supporting the career development of African scientists, with more than 400 postgraduate students and 56 EDCTP fellows supported under the first EDCTP Programme. We welcome more than 100 EDCTP fellows (former and current) to the Forum as part of the recently- launched EDCTP Alumni Network.

Partnership is at the core of the EDCTP mission. We acknowledge the support of our partners and hosts for Forum - the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.  EDCTP and our Portuguese hosts look forward to meeting you in Lisbon.
